The new website of the EU Energy Initiative Partnership Dialogue Facility (EUEI PDF) based in Eschborn near Frankfurt am Main is online.
Together with Schumacher. Visuelle Kommunikation the Drupal service provider Berger Schmidt developed the site using the open source content management system Drupal. The site will be edited by the employees of the EUEI PDF.
As a special Feature the site contains an eloborate document archive for the activities and studies of the EUEI PDF. Filter- and search functions, implemented via a custom Drupal module, support the research for documents.
About the EUEI PDF
The Partnership Dialogue Facility (EUEI PDF) is an instrument developed and funded by a number of EU member states and the European Commission in the context of the EU Energy Initiative (EUEI).
The overall objective of the EUEI PDF is to support our partner countries and regions across Africa, Southeast Asia, Latin America and the Pacific in developing policies and strategies for the promotion of access to energy.

The well known Editors Weblog, a publication of the World Editors Forum, and the SFN - Shaping the Future of the Newspaper Blog are migrated to Drupal!
In collaboration with Drupal service provider Berger Schmidt the WAN-IFRA - World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers integrated both blogs in the existing multi-site-setup, and during that imported the existing users as well as approximately 25.000 articles from the MySQL-database of the previously used publishing-platform Movable Type.
About the Editors Weblog
The World Editors Forum is the organization within the World Association of Newspapers devoted to newspaper editors worldwide.
The Editors Weblog (...), launched in January 2004, is a WEF initiative designed to facilitate the diffusion of information relevant to newspapers and their editors.
About the SFN Blog
WAN-IFRA Research encompasses known brands such as Shaping the Future of the Newspaper (SFN) and World Press Trends (WPT).
The SFN Blog provides related information for a global audience of publishers and newspaper executives.

The Drupal service provider Berger Schmidt implemented the new "Energy" microsite within the website Africa and Europe in Partnership. The microsite was designed by Schumacher. Visuelle Kommunikation.
The project took place in consultation with the technical support of the European Commission in Brussels and the project managers of the EU Energy initiative Partnership Dialogue Facility (PDF EUEI) in Eschborn near Frankfurt.
About the AEEP
The Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP) is one of the eight partnerships of the Africa-EU Joint Strategy adopted by African and European Heads of State and Government in Lisbon in December 2007.
With a focus on energy issues of strategic importance, the AEEP is structured as a long term framework for political dialogue and cooperation between Africa and the European Union (EU), reflecting their mutual needs.

Upgrade to Drupal 6
At first Berger Schmidt upgraded the CMS Drupal from version 5 to 6. During that the content of the old site (over 500 images organised in around 80 projects) was transferred automatically, reducing the editorial effort.
Responsive Web Design
To ensure compatibility to mobile devices like the Apple iPad or the Apple iPhone the Adobe Flash format was replaced by HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
The web experts Berger Schmidt programmed a custom Drupal theme which displays the layout, typography and images in a flexible way. This approach allows the website to respond to screen resolutions of different devices (desktop, tablet, smartphone etc.) in a flexible way.
This so called Responsive Design is controlled with (CSS) Media Queries and can easily be upgraded for new kinds of displays.
Slideshow with jQuery
For the display of images in a slideshow, a custom Drupal module was programmed. The module utilizes the JavaScript library jQuery to offer the wanted functions (play, pause, pager, animations) of the slideshow.
